Empire Stock Investor: Legit Whitney Tilson Stock Picks?

Hello and welcome to my review of Whitney Tilson’s Empire Stock Investor.

I discovered Empire Stock Investor after receiving an email, which took me to a presentation on the Empire Financial Research website featuring Whitney Tilson.

In the presentation, Whitney talks about “America’s #1 retirement stock” and says that if you join his advisory service (Empire Stock Investor) for $49, he’ll explain why he believes it has 40% upside potential.

And why it could be one of the best ways to quickly and safely grow your nest egg in the coming months and years. In fact, Whitney says he’s so confident in this opportunity that he’d put 50% of his kid’s college fund in it.

Which is exciting considering he’s one of the most successful, well-connected investing professionals in the world.

But is it the real deal?

Well, I decided to take a closer look to find out. Because over the years I’ve learned the hard way that some of these advisory services aren’t as amazing as they sound.

And what I found was that Empire Stock Investor is a legitimate service where Whitney shares his cheap, high-quality stock ideas. Normally larger, more stable, companies. But sometimes undervalued stocks or those Whitney believes have “multibagger upside potential.”

That said, Empire Stock Investor is a really high value service.

Especially for $49 per year.

I mean, I wouldn’t rush into it expecting to get rich quick, or without understanding the risks involved, but this a great service that could help you create a lucrative portfolio over time.

But before you rush out and join, let’s take a closer look at which stocks Whitney recommends and what Empire Stock Investor is all about, so you can decide if it’s right for you.

What Is Empire Stock Investor?

Empire Stock Investor is a monthly investment advisory service that is published by Empire Financial Research and edited by Whitney Tilson and Enrique Abeyta. Both of which are seasoned investors with over 50 years of combined experience on Wall Street.

The main benefit of joining the service is that you get access to Whitney’s investing insights via the monthly newsletter as well as his top stock picks. But there are other benefits of joining, such as the detailed reports on what he says is America’s #1 Retirement Stock and a report entitled “The Perfect Portfolio.”

Empire Stock Investor is mostly geared towards people looking to secure their retirement, so it’s made up of stock picks that are generally considered less risky. So Whitney and the team usually recommend large-cap, U.S. stocks (meaning shares of larger, more stable companies).

And these stock plays normally last three to five years. So it’s not about short term “gambling” on price movements, it’s more about value investing.

What is “America’s #1 Retirement Stock” that he mentions?

It’s Berkshire Hathaway, an American multinational conglomerate holding company founded by Warren Buffet – arguably the world’s greatest investor. This is the stock he says he’d be willing to invest 50% of his kid’s college fund in, and one of the stocks he recommends to subscribers.

He also mentions opportunities to profit from undervalued companies or growth stocks that, while riskier, could potentially yield bigger gains. For example, in one presentation he talks about TaaS (transportation-as-a-service) companies which has to do with the rise of electric and self-driving vehicles.

And some of his favorite stocks are “tech titans” that he says are leading the way with respects to healthcare, artificial intelligence and augmented reality. I don’t want to give too much away, but after doing some digging, it seems that Amazon is one of these.

So he’s recommending some great companies here.

And according to the Empire Financial Research website, that’s the whole idea.

Whitney says all you need are a “small handful of safe and incredibly profitable investment opportunities” that you bet really big on, which is how he was able to grow his investors’ money from $1 million to $200 million in peak assets. And he says that you could could use the same strategy to “dramatically change your financial prospects.”

So, to sum it up, Empire Financial Research is a high value advisory service that shows you how to create a portfolio of high quality U.S. stocks, with the hopes of securing your retirement in the safest and most profitable way possible.

How Does Empire Stock Investor Work?

The way Empire Stock Investor works is pretty straightforward.

Once you signup to the service for $49 on the Empire Financial Research website, you will get access to Whitney Tilson’s stock picks and investment research. And the idea is to then learn from Whitney and Enrique, and use their recommendations to create a lucrative stock portfolio.

Here’s an overview of what you get access to:

  • Empire Stock Investor Monthly Newsletter: Each month, Whitney Tilson sends his subscribers a new report with a new investment idea, and provides updates on any changes to his model portfolio. This is the bread and butter of the advisory service.
  • Model Portfolio: This portfolio helps you keep track of the stocks Whitney recommends. It shows you what stocks he’s buying and at what price to keep you updated.
  • Empire Financial Daily: Members also receive a daily email from the office of Whitney Tilson which keeps you informed and updated on what is happening in the market each day the market is open.
  • Website Access: Whitney‘s research and model portfolio are archived in the members only website. Which makes it handy to get access to everything in one place.
  • Customer care: If you ever have any questions about your membership (this does not include questions about how to invest), then there are support staff you can call.

As you can see, that’s a LOT of value for just $49.

Also worth mentioning is that there’s even a 30 day money back guarantee in place. So if you buy the service and aren’t happy with your purchase after 30 days, you can request a refund. Which I think is good because it virtually removes the risk of giving it a try.

Who’s Whitney Tilson – Legit Investing Guru?

Whitney Tilson
Whitney Tilson

Whitney Tilson is the man behind Empire Stock Investor, founder and CEO of Empire Financial Research, and one of the most respected investors of our time. He has been referred to as the “prophet” of investing given how well some of his calls have played out over the years.

After graduating from Harvard College in 1989, Whitney helped launch “Teach for America” and spent a couple years consulting for the Boston Consulting Group. And in 1994, he earned his MBA from Harvard Business School.

From here, he founded and ran Kase Capital Management from his bedroom, and was able to turn $1 million into almost $200 million in assets under management in a relatively short period of time.

And after many years of successful investing for both himself and his clients, he now shares his insights with people who subscribe to his flagship service – Empire Stock Investor.

He’s also co-authored books like “The Art of Value Investing: How the World’s Best Investors Beat the Market” and written for the Motley Fool, Forbes and the Financial Times among others. And as if that wasn’t enough, he’s also been featured in two 60 Minutes segments and appeared many times on Fox Business Network, CNBC and Bloomberg TV.

So he’s kind of a big deal. And someone with a lot of credibility when it comes to investing and providing sound insight to those who listen to him.

Is Empire Stock Investor the Real Deal?

Yes, Empire Stock Investor is a legitimate advisory service.

And it’s run by a team of investing experts, including Whitney Tilson, Enrique Abeyta and Steve Culbertson, who work hard to provide subscribers with lots of high value insight.

So if you’re someone who wants to manage your own portfolio, but with the help of those with a proven track record, this could be the service you’ve been looking for.

And either way, I personally think that for $49, there’s very little downside to buying the subscription itself. Even if you’re not a fan of Whitney’s stock picks, you are almost certainly going to learn something as a member. And considering there’s a full 365 day money back guarantee, it’s a no brainer in my books.

That doesn’t mean it’s completely risk-free though.

Nor does it mean you are guaranteed to make lots of money. Because no matter how knowledgable you are or how well you play the market, nobody gets it right 100% of the time. Which is why speculating in the stock market is not without risks.

However, as a member of Empire Stock Investor, you are getting every chance to profit from the recommendations of experts in the field. So, as long as you understand the potential risks, I think it could be well worth it for the right person.

Bottom Line

Empire Stock Investor is a monthly investment advisory service that is published by Empire Financial Research and edited by Whitney Tilson and Enrique Abeyta.

Both Whitney and Enrique are expert investors who share a great deal of value with subscribers. So I think this could be a really worthwhile service depending on your goals.

That said, as with any type of investing, there are risks involved. Which is why it pays to educate yourself and do your due diligence before risking your money.

The good news is that, unlike many advisory services, members of Empire Stock Investor aren’t just given a bunch of stock picks and expected to just blindly trust they’ll work out.

As a member, you get access to a ton of useful insight so that you can learn how to become a successful investor and be confident in where you’re putting your money. Which is one of the key things that separates this from other services and what gives it a lot of credibility.

Ultimately though, what you decide to do is up to you.

I’m not affiliated with Whitney Tilson or Empire Stock Investor. So my aim with this review wasn’t to convince you to join, or not join. As always, my aim is to simply share my opinion based on what I found, which hopefully helps you make a more informed choice either way.
